Alchornea cordifolia Discussion:

A plant native to Africa and known by the name “Christmas Bush”. It is yet another amazing plant that came to be popular by Dr. Stephen Buhner’s recommendations. He tells us that many sell a different species, under the cordifolia name and they also rely on studies of that other variation that just are not accurate. He tells us that other variations are NOT the same! Alchornea cordifolia is considered to be one of his top herbal antibiotics!

He explains that there are numerous studies that show that it has activity against resistant bacteria, especially those related to bartonella. He shares that it has shown to be stronger than most antibiotics. (2) It may specialize in protecting red blood cells and pathogens that favor the blood stream. It is a promising natural treatment for anemia, which is a disorder of the formation of red blood cells, forming a sickle shape, hence the name. When this occurs, the cells may be starved of oxygen and as it turns out, many in Africa suffer from this issue. African healers have used this plant for centuries to treat this issue and it has proven quite effective, giving it a reputation of being the strongest plant to use for this issue! Buhner explains to us “the plant prevents sickling of the cells and reverses cells that have already transformed”. (2) Unlike medications, there are no reactions by using this whole plant form. 

Alchornea goes systemic and has potent benefits for brain issues, such as CNS. (2) It also offers amazing spleen support. It modulates the effects of enzymatic activity of murine macrophages, as well as increases their killing capacity. (2) It showed the highest antioxidant activity of 42 plants that were tested. (2) It may also be highly protective of liver against hepatotoxins. It has shown promising results in rat studies pertaining to edema as well. Due to studies showing that it may peak every 4 hours, Dr. Buhner suggests taking it accordingly. He also suggests using it in tinctured form. The only side effect reported that we can tell may be that high doses may have a sedative, or depressant effect on the CNS. Therefore, caution may be needed when taking medications that also have these types of reactions. 

It is another plant with an extensive list of possible benefits, such as “an antimalarial, antibacterial, antiprotozoal, antifungal, antiamoebic, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, antianemia, and antidiarrheal”. (2) He also tells us that it has antitumor, antioxidant, antiseptic, and antiviral activity. It is also active against a broad list of pathogens like Pseudomonas, Staph, Candida, Strep, H. pylori, Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli, Klebsiella, and Babesia, as well as others. Product Variations:

We offer most every herb in multiple variations. such as a standard tincture, oxygenated tincture, glycerite, herbal tea, encapsulated, or as a loose powder. We highly recommend getting at least two variations of the preferred blend, to achieve saturation.

Standard Tincture – Herbal compounds extracted in an organic alcohol base. Alcohol may offer the most superior absorption rate and bioavailability. We recommend allowing your dose to sit under the tongue for 3+ minutes, then swallowing it down with water or juice.  Microscopic compounds are readily available to be absorbed through tissues, into the bloodstream, then circulated to the organs. We use wildcrafted alchornea leaf and grind it down to tincture. 

Oxygenated Tincture – This is a standard tincture that has been oxygenated. This is a process of adding an oxygen molecule to the present herbal compound. We collide the herbal compound with an oxygen molecule, encasing them within a bubble, known as a liposome. The difference can be clearly seen by the change in color. The lipospheres’ may have the capability to surpass the bioavailability of a standard tincture, although exhibiting the existing benefits. We use wildcrafted alchornea leaf and grind it down to tincture. 

Glycerite – A non-alcoholic extraction of herbal compounds in a vegetable glycerin base. This variation is ideal for children and those sensitive. I don’t contain sugar, even though its taste resembles syrup. Doses are approximately 2 times more than a tincture to receive similar benefits. They can be taken in the same way, which is in 4 oz. of water or juice. We use wildcrafted alchornea leaf and grind it down to create glycerites.

Vegetarian Capsules – Size 00, vegetarian capsules. We hand-encapsulated, to order. The capsule is taken with 4 oz. of water or juice. Capsules are a great secondary product to achieve saturation of the body, along with another variation. We use wildcrafted alchornea leaf and grind it down to encapsulate.

Herbal Tea – Teabags are handmade to order. Every bag can be brewed up to three times, making three cups of lovely tea each. Constituents will be continually extracted with each brew. Be sure to squeeze the bag gently upon finishing your cup of tea. Brewing instructions are included on individual labels, depending on the parts of the plant used. It may be best to drink it as is, without adding a sugar substitute. Be sure to also drink the medicinal residue that settles to the bottom of the cup! We use wildcrafted alchornea leaf and grind it down to bag as herbal tea.

Infused Oil – We delicately infuse sunflower oil with the wildcrafted, aerial parts of calendula, in flower. It is scented with our White Sage essential oil.

Organic Soap – We offer infused, organic soap in 8 oz. portions. This is two 4 oz. bars. It is scented with our White Sage essential oil. We wildcraft the aerial parts in flower of calendula and infuse our soap, to order.
