Echinacea Angustifolia Discussion:
There are two types of medicinal echinacea, both of which are highly beneficial for the immune system. The most popular and well-known species is echinacea purpurea. This is echinacea angustifolia, the lesser known, yet most medicinal species, in our opinion.
As a matter of fact, this species, angustifolia, is also known as “Narrow-Leaf Purple Coneflower” because that is the main identification difference in the two species. Angustifolia has shorter, thin leaves all the way down the stem, unlike the purpurea variation, which has broad, wider leaves. Angustifolia leaves are smooth around the edges, whereas purpurea has toothed leaves. The plants themselves look similar, yet you may be able to tell the difference by the taste!
Angustifolia has a very unique reaction to our tissues and linings. It has the ability to make the mouth, tongue, and esophagus tissues numb, which makes it ideal for things such as a sore throat! It also has a tingly effect on the skin, which many utilize for minor pain support. It’s also used for immunity support.
