Planting/Growing Lomatium Discussion:

This is an herb suggested by Dr. Stephen Buhner, as it is a part of his Lyme protocol and he writes about it in many of his books.

Lomatium dissectum is a highly sought out medicinal plant. It is also known as “Fernleaf Biscuitroot”. It prefers full sun and dry, rocky soil, fast-draining soil. It can started growing the seed indoors, after a 60 day stratification period. Plants should be planted 2 ft. apart. It may grow up to 3 ft. tall. It is native to the United States, specifically in the Sierra Nevada range of California.

It is a perennial, therefore once you get it going, it will return back to you every year. Lomatium needs stratification for 60 days, which makes it a great fall planting. You may want to soak seeds in water for 24 hours before planting them as well. The seeds are to be sown at 1/2″ and kept moist until they break ground.

It prefers full sun and it is said that it will not grow in the shade. It has been known to grow up to 3 ft. tall and 2 ft. wide. It is a smaller and slow-growing plant that can take a few years to mature. It produces yellow flowers that turn reddish-brown in the fall. Their boldness may stand out when compared to other plants in the vicinity

It grows best in zones 6-8. Seeds should be planted 1-2 ft. apart. Lomatium has leaves that resemble a parsley.

We carry Lomatium tinctures, colloidal tinctures, glycerites, herbal tea, loose powder, and capsules, elsewhere on this site. To purchase one, or to read about the possible benefits of Lomatium, Click Here.
