Torilis japonica is a very special plant that I have been growing or three years now. They are actually evergreens, in most zones. They can also be an annual or biennial. Torilis comes back every year, ensuring a constant supply of medicinal herb. No matter if the snow killed off my plants here in zone 7, they still came back even bushier after the winter! It is a low-growing cover crop that has potent medicinal properties. As a matter of fact, torilis japonica is suggested by Dr. Stephen Buhner for toxoplasmosis support. It is also known to be 10x’s stronger for liver support than milk thistle!

Torilis is an erect parsley, meaning it is very thin, thriving if many are bunched with it. It becomes taller in the summer when it goes into seed, which is when it may get up to 4 ft. tall, although through the spring and winter it is low growing, reaching around 12 inches tall. Many plants grown together are beautiful. The seed pods stick to clothing very easily.  They grow in zones 2-10, a vast-growing plant that will grow almost anywhere.

The seeds do not need stratification. It is a seed that can be planted anytime of the spring and summer. It loves full sun but also thrives in the shade. Seeds are to be sown 1/8th inch deep. They take 2-4 weeks to germinate. It can be planted in pots or it can go directly into the ground. Be aware that this plant is HIGHLY invasive! You may start off with only a few and within a year or so you may have a hundred!

They should be planted at least 20 cm. apart, which is very close together.
