Description

There is a lot of controversy around artemisinin, especially pertaining to its dosage and long-term effects. It is important to keep in mind that this is an isolated extract from sweet wormwood. As with any other extract, it is a single compound, and these types of remedies may only be effective in the first beginning stages of taking it. It may be ideal to take for chronic parasite and malarial infections, and it has also shown promising results against potential cancers and viruses. Many websites will tell you that it may cause gastro upset, loss of appetite, nausea, cramping, diarrhea, and vomiting but studies have shown that has only occurred in about 4% of those who use it. Artemisinin may damage proteins and inhibit parasite proteasome functioning, which is how it is said to kill malaria. It is used by many who battle with Lyme Disease and coinfections. Being an extract of sweet wormwood, it may be highly effective as a short-term treatment for parasites, including babesia.

Artemisinin is extremely safe it taken appropriately, which means a dose of around 1,200 mg. daily for more than 7 days, yet less than 30. For malarial support, 500-1000 mg. the first day and 500 mg for 2-4 days should completely clear the parasite from the blood. (1) In Chinese medicine a dose of 500-1,600 mg. for 3 days is common, repeated after two weeks, to combat newly hatched parasites. For general parasites, a slightly higher dose taken for 7 days, repeated after two weeks may be effective. (1) There is definitely a smaller relapse rate at higher doses. It does not seem to be very effective after the 7-day mark. If it hasn’t eliminated pathogens within a month, it may not work at all, and pulsing will not help any more with that. (1)

It is not recommended to take artemisinin in high doses, such as more than 3,000 mg. daily. The good thing about this extract is that any symptoms that occur during use may stop almost immediately upon stopping it. It is not recommended to take during pregnancy. It should not be taken by anyone on heart medications, as it may cause slight hypotension. It is not recommended to take for long periods of time, as in years, especially at high doses.
