Quercetin is a yellow flavonoid with powerful cytokine benefits. It is a “go-to” plant for support with diarrhea for Dr. Buhner. It is used by many to prevent UTIs by inhibiting bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall. One of its main purposes is to activate an enzyme inside the cells called “The Master Switch”, which maintains a crucial role in metabolism. Berberine may play a major role in cellular health, including gene activation and inactivation processes. It has a synergy that may potentiate other compounds, like artemisinin, including in the treatment of MRSA. (1) Berberine compounds act as an efflux pump inhibitor, meaning it prevents the pathogen from flushing out medicinal compounds, blocking bacterial protein machines. (1) Three potent medicinal plants high in berberine are goldenseal, coptis, and phellodendron, which contains almost 4% berberine!
